On our way up there, I decided to get on Facebook with my phone (this is typical on long drives). It wasn't long before I read some really sad news from an old friend. After undergoing surgery, they ended up having to put their pup down. This broke our hearts, as we absolutely loved this pup. We haven't seen this particular couple (or their pup) in nearly 7 years -- wow, how has it been that long?!?! -- but we have many memories with them. They were among our first friends at our very first duty station (Germany), and their pup was Oba's best friend. We lived across the hall from each other in the apartment building, and these pups saw each other almost daily. Oba LOVED his girlfriend, Lexi, ha.
When we read the news, we started reminiscing about that sweet pup, and I immediately thought of a specific picture they had given us shortly after we had gotten back from the hospital with Jake. They had watched Oba for us during that week while we were there with our son, and took such good care of our little prince. Even now, this picture makes us laugh...
As you can tell, Oba doesn't hesitate to take over someone else's house and demand attention...
That sweet pup will definitely be missed! With hearing such sad news, she was on our minds during our trip to Atlanta -- as was that horrible shooting in AZ! When we sat down for dinner, I couldn't help but get on my phone and look for updates on the news...
On a brighter note, we enjoyed the area that we ran across while in Atlanta! We'll definitely be going back -- especially since I didn't realize C&B would close so early! Who knew Crate & Barrel closed at 7pm on the weekend? I sure didn't. Maybe it's an Atlanta thing? Either way, we made that our final stop and ended up finding out the hard way that they close early. Total bummer! Oh well, we'll be up there again in 2 weeks for my peri appointment, so we'll definitely be going back! Perhaps Restoration Hardware will continue their crazy sales, too. I was able to get a few things for 60% off since they're moving to a new location. I absolutely love that store, but I'm typically too cheap to actually shop there...but with a deal like that, who can pass it up?!
In the end, it was a fun yet sad day for us, that's for sure. When we got home, we loved on Oba lots and I told him (as I always do) that he's not allowed to age any further and that he must live forever -- I do realize that's a bit irrational, but nonetheless, I tell him that. After all, this pup has been through everything with us -- literally, everything! (We got him a couple months before we got married.) I can't imagine the day when he will no longer be with us. Our sweet basset. The older he gets, the more we've started to spoil him rotten -- when he makes us follow him to the kitchen, sits, and stares at the treat cabinet, he pretty much gets his way 100% of the time now...His senior citizen status is definitely working in his favor these days. He used to get shut down with such demands and would grumble back at us in dissatisfaction, but now we pretty much give in 100% of the time and watch as he prances off to his bed with his delicious snack.
Anyways...
RIP, sweet girl. You will missed!
Sweet Lexi...Losing an animal is always so hard. I feel for your friends. I hope Oba has many more years ahead of him! (I tell my cats and dog that they have to live forever too.) <3 <3 <3
