Well, today marked Obadiah's 8th birthday. Hard to believe he's creeping up there in age. Our little senior citizen has seen his better days, and is now sleeping most of them away. It turned out to be quite the day for him, and did nothing but run straight to his bed when we got home from a long day out.
A friend and I had planned on having a New Moon movie night and Oba ended up getting invited too -- yes, after refusing for a long time, I gave in and saw Twilight and am now hooked! When my friend found out it was Oba's birthday, she said there was no way he could spend it alone. Ha.
Well, with it being Obadiah's big day, I told James I would get him some beer. I said I'd probably just grab some cheap Miller Lite or something, as there is never beer in this house if James is gone...I can't stand the taste. However, he disagreed and said with Oba getting up there in years, he needed to enjoy some good deutsches Bier. So on our way to her place, I stopped by the store and picked Oba up a Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse Dunkel. That's typically something James would have, and since he usually shares a little with Oba, I knew he would probably drink it right up. Ridiculously spoiled, I know. It turns out, there's only so much beer an 8 year old pup can handle. He loved the first serving...
...and his second. However, after that, he turned it away. I was shocked. Oba never turns down beer. In fact, Deb and Grant got to witness first hand his obsession with the oat soda. Just the sound of the beer bottle snapping open will wake Oba up from a deep slumber, and before you know it, he's sitting in the kitchen drooling. It's a pretty pathetic sight. However, after tonight, I guess there's a limit now as to how much he will consume. Back in the days of unit bbq's in Germany, Oba would nearly get wasted from all the beer single soldiers would sneak him when we weren't paying attention, but now he knows when enough is enough...
i guess that shows he's really maturing. (:
