Are You Fight Or Flight?

Apparently in a crazy situation like a kitchen fire, I'm flight. I had the luck of experiencing such madness last night while cooking dinner. When the skillet went up in flames (rather large ones at that!), I froze. I knew you couldn't use water to put out an oil fire and our baking soda and flour are both stored in the cabinet right above the stove (and current flames!) so that wasn't exactly an option. So, what did I do? I screamed, ha. I screamed and then yelled to James who was in the other room with Samuel -- "Ahhhhh!!!! James!!! What do I do?!?!?!? What do I do?!?!?! Ahhhh!!!" (Several times, repeatedly.) Ha. Oh, good times. Luckily, he reacted fast and ran in with the fire extinguisher and put it out. Can I just say...I wish I would've had baking soda within reach. The powder that came from the fire extinguisher made the biggest mess and got in every nook and cranny in our entire kitchen -- not to mention it's irritating to the eyes and throat. Of course, it didn't help that James was incredibly overambitious and sprayed the entire surrounding area along with the skillet -- not complaining though...thank you, James, for having such a quick response to the madness!

So yeah, we had quite a mess on our hands. I think I was slightly more panicked about the mess afterwards than I was the fire. If you know me, I can barely handle a crumb on the counter, let alone a kitchen entirely covered in yellow dust. Ugh. I don't think our kitchen has ever been this clean -- not even when we moved in -- after having to clean up that mess. I spent hours detailing the entire thing, as I didn't want even a hint of that yellow dust sticking around. And a note to anyone that has a microwave above the stove and experiences such things...an SOS pad gets rid of the burn marks. For awhile there, I thought we were going to have to buy a new appliance with how it looked. Thank you, my dear SOS pad! You saved the day and now you wouldn't ever guess we had such a wild and crazy dinner experience.

Oh, and one last thing. If you don't already have a fire extinguisher in your home, go buy one! It's worth it -- not to mention the discount you get on your renters/home owners insurance. ;)

On a totally unrelated note, while typing this out, Samuel decided he wanted to be held. Upon grabbing him up, I noticed that he's cutting his second tooth! Crazy! This boy's growing faster than I can handle. Here's a quick attempt at capturing that hint of a second tooth...

And before I go...while trying to get a picture of his two teeth coming in, Samuel grabbed the lens and got himself a little self-portrait. Sweet boy...

  1. Yikes! I'm pretty sure I would have done the same thing - "what do I do? What do I do!?" ha!

Finn doesn't have teeth yet, but I am sure it'll be soon. They are growing up WAY too fast!

Love the self portrait - those eyes!
