The Beginning Of Our Trip...

August 9th happened to mark two things -- our 9th anniversary and Samuel's 2 month birthday. It also happened to be the day in which we headed towards Pittsburgh -- the first stop in our little road trip. It started out well, but by the end, it was quite miserable...

At 8:45am, Samuel had his two month check up. I'm happy to say that he weighed in at 10lb 9oz and 22.5in long -- putting him in the 50th percentile for both weight and height! The ped chuckled and said that you would've never guessed he was born early with how he's growing. Way to go, Sam! After the fun part of the check up, we had to wait for the shots...

The poor guy didn't know what was comin'...

After a delayed reaction, Samuel was quite pissed about receiving those shots. Luckily, it didn't take long to calm him down though. I'm so glad he didn't have any kind of allergic reaction or anything, as we spent the next 13 hours on the road! Good times, I tell you...

I suppose if you're going to do a road trip, now is the time to do it. Samuel slept the ENTIRE drive (minus the few times he decided he was hungry). Between the calming effect of a car ride and the typical reaction to vaccines, he made the drive quite easy. If anything, Obadiah was the one to give us issues, as he fumigated the truck quite a few times -- small spaces with a basset aren't always fun...

I know he loved it though...

That's right. Oba sat up front with James so that I could sit with Samuel -- most definitely helped with feeding and comforting Samuel on the off chance that he did actually wake up...

Occasionally, the truck would start to smell and just as I would begin to say something, I would look up and see Obadiah panting into the vent -- thanks Oba...I love your dog breath being blown towards me!

When he wasn't doing that, he was finding unique ways of sleeping...

Overall, it was an incredibly smooth drive. The only issue we had was towards the end when I started to experience *what I thought was* severe heartburn. Unfortunately, it turned out to be food poisoning. (Yeah, I'm not going back to Wendy's anytime soon!!!) Luckily, it didn't really kick in until after we had already arrived at my sister's house in Pittsburgh. All I could think that night was, "This better not be some crazy virus!!!" Can you imagine starting a 2 week trip, only to be miserably sick the entire time?!?! As crazy as it sounds, I was really glad to find out that it was *just* food poisoning, as I was back to normal by 1pm the next day. Thank goodness!

With the food poisoning behind me, James and I jumped into gear that next afternoon with our list of things that we *had* to do while in the 'Burgh -- including things like Primanti Bros., tax-free outlet shopping, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Art, Pamela's, Hofbrauhaus, etc. We definitely crammed in a lot while we were in town, but we had a great time. I'm so glad we were able to spend time with my sweet nephews, as well as my sis and bro-in-law. Matt's rarely in town when I visit, so it was nice to see him for a change! PLUS, since he was there, we did a little photo shoot for the fam. It took a LOT of convincing to get my nephew, Josh, in his matching outfit, but we had success at last and I think we got a couple decent shots! Below are a few (okay, more than a few) pictures from our time in the "Burgh -- some of which are repeats from the last post...

As my sister, Deb, would say...Sam gave a fist pump as we prepared for our afternoon at the outlets, ha.

Soon after, he decided he wanted to be held -- we can never say no!

Quality time with Aunt Jen...

And his proud cousin, Alex...

Samuel was quite comfortable in his arms...

This made me laugh...Josh just kind of opened his arms and let me lay Sam there -- no cuddling for those two, ha!

It was so sweet...Alex even wanted to help feed the little guy...

Love those eyes...

Annnnnnd....my attempt at a little photo shoot -- not the greatest (and by no means professional), but not too bad, I suppose! We did get a few decent shots in the end...

The best part was when Jen pulled Matt away from what he was doing so that we could attempt a family shot. I mentioned the side of their house since we could use the brick wall as a background. This is the first thing Matt thought to do upon that suggestion...

Such a cute family...

On a totally different note, if you happen to watch the next Batman, look for this skyline (or maybe just a few familiar buildings?). They're filming it in Pittsburgh! How fun! While we were downtown, Matt pointed out a couple different locations that they used. Such a beautiful city...

Poor Jen didn't know she was my subject as I was toying with the camera settings while we were looking out over the city...

Nor did my boys...

Love those little sausages (arms) -- that boy is soon going to be a Michelin baby if he keeps it up!

One little perk of going on this big trip...we finally have pictures of the THREE of us!

Well...and I'm sure James considered this a minor perk...

  1. Great pictures!! I love the one of Oba with his face through the door hold. Tank usually lays like that except his nose is too big to go all the way through.
