Happy Birthday, Old Man...

Our little old man, Obadiah, turned 9 years old this past Sunday. Like any spoiled pup, he celebrated it with his favorite thing...beer. James went out and bought him a Spaten bottle of beer (his favorite) and let him have it all to himself. His birthday is the only time when he gets to enjoy a bottle to himself and boy did he! Unlike last year -- when I portioned it out in 3 portions and by the 3rd portion, he turned it down showing good self-control -- James poured it out all at once and Oba went to town! He must've thought he had found Heaven when that bowl hit the ground...

Upon seeing the bottle of beer...

Impatiently waiting for James to open his present...

A little preview...

Such anticipation...

Let the senior citizen celebration begin...

Pure bliss...

After getting his treat, he slept it off for a little while, then we took him over to his store -- Petsmart. My in-laws had mailed him birthday money (I know, he's a spoiled granddog!), so we took him out to get a new toy. While we were there, they had all of the adoption pups out, so Oba was so overwhelmed by new friends that he didn't pay any attention to the toy isles. Normally, he would sniff them up and down and possibly grab something if he liked it, but not that day. So, instead, we picked something out for him. Being that he's a serial killer with his toys (he defaces them, pulls all of the stuffing out, then pulls the bodies inside out -- I know, a little disturbing), we got him this super durable pig that's supposedly sewn three times over to sustain such torture. Wouldn't you know it...he has no interest in the pig!?! I guess he knows he can't kill it so where's the fun in playing with it? After sniffing it a few times, the pig has not moved from its place. Maybe it will be the one toy that survives our terror of a pup...

Oh, the hard knock life of a basset hound...especially one that lives in the Moore household. Another year older, wiser, and grumpier. Just like when I was pregnant with Olivia, we occasionally ask Obadiah if he's excited about having a baby brother...he always responds with a grumble, then immediately turns and leaves the room. I think someone might be a bit unhappy come June if things work out like they should. Can you imagine? Going from 100% attention to having to...gasp...share?!? Oh, the horror of it all! Perhaps he can have a bottle of beer while James enjoys a cigar if we get to actually bring Samuel home. I doubt he'd complain with that...

Oh well...Happy Birthday, Old Man!
