Planning Ahead...

Another weekly shot has come and gone, and this week was met with even more excitement -- if you want to call it that. Before the nurse performed the usual torture, we went through a bunch of paperwork preparing for the delivery of Spud. Which hospital are we going to use? If it's a boy, are we going to circumcise? Are we going to breastfeed? What about pain management during delivery? Which pediatrician do I plan to use? Etc.

Normally, I'm sure this is an exciting time of planning, but for us...well, beyond the hospital and pain management options, I'd like to wait until we see that healthy delivery before we worry about the rest!

The nurse was full of excitement as she went through all of this and the last thing she asked was if this was our first. When I said no, she said, "Oh ok, well then you know all about all of this!" Sort of. I explained our history in one sentence and the mood changed. She said she would be praying for us daily and that she unfortunately knows all too well about what we're going through. We didn't go into her history of loss, but we agreed that it happens way more often than it should.

I suppose I have until 28 weeks to speak with the hospital and do the rest of the paperwork, as well as figure out which pediatrician I want to use. I remember stressing about the ped. issue with Liv and feeling so glad that I had found a good place that was taking new patients, etc. Yeah, that obviously never panned out. I suppose all we can do is hope and pray that this time will be different!

On a brighter note, I was able to get them to do a doppler read while I was there -- so as to calm my nerves! Spud's doing great with a heart rate in the 150s. What a relief! I think by the end of all of this, they may as well just find me a nicely decorated padded room, as I'm just about one step short of needing it, ha.

Since there will be no new pictures of Spud until Friday (when we head to Atlanta to see the peri), here's a picture of the basset taken from my phone...

James found his sweet spot...

  2. Can I join you in that padded room? :) I feel like I will need it by the end of this as well. I am so glad that you got to hear Spud's strong heartbeat, and I am really glad that the nurse was understanding and sympathetic once she knew your history. Sending you love!
PS. Another adorable picture of Oba!

  3. Good to hear you had a good appointment. don't stress about that stuff, if you don't give them a ped, they will have one on call and you can start calling ped offices after you see your healthy baby, so don't worry about that. Sorry I totally left you hanging today online, Abigail got up and I was trying to eat and it got a little crazy. I just want to apologize. Have a good night.

  4. I'm glad you got to hear Spud's heartbeat and I'm looking forward to the next pictures! I still find it....not strange, but different, to have to explain to someone about Jacob, August and Cub. It always changes the mood drastically, but I'll never leave them out.

  5. Love the pup!! Hearing the heartbeat is fantastic, ever though about renting/buying a doppler so you can hear it whenever you want? I think that's my plan but I've got a lot of "plans" now, we'll see what actually happens when I'm pregnant..when I'm pregnant!

  6. Claire's Mom - I keep going back and forth with the idea of renting a doppler. My OB keeps trying to convince me not to, saying that it will just make me even more paranoid and nuts (She's a BLM, too.). I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet... :)
