The Spud...

Well, we had our first actual OB appointment today. Up until getting that ultrasound, I was nearly shaking with insane stress and worry about this appointment. I feared hearing bad news, and was pretty much restless the entire morning. Luckily, there was no reason for that.

The appointment went amazingly well. In fact, I don't know that it could've gone any better. Thanks to Rhiannon, I have an AWESOME OB here in town. This doc is going to do everything she can to see that this baby makes it. Just meeting with her took away so much stress and worry. Before going in, I kept thinking about all the questions and demands we had, and whether or not this OB was going to be willing to work with us. Sure enough, she agreed on all of it and then some. What a relief!

Among the many things covered...It looks like I'll get the joy of taking progesterone until the day this baby arrives. I'll also be seeing a perinatologist in Atlanta throughout my pregnancy. There's only one peri locally, and she doesn't have a good track record, so my OB said that she's sending me to one in Atlanta that she knows is great. In addition to all of that, there will also be more ultrasounds and testing throughout the pregnancy just to make sure that the baby is doing well -- no complaints there! I'll take anything I can get!

The biggest thing that I was worried about was how far she would let this baby go before delivering. Well, there's no reason to fret. She said she won't let me go further than 36 weeks, period. That's what I was worried about, and she totally agreed. I guess her plan is to do the steroid shots at around 24 weeks, then go from there. She forewarned me that at the slightest hint of trouble, I better be prepared to camp out in the hospital for the rest of the pregnancy. Hey...if that means a healthy kid, I'll take it. I just hope we make it that far!

So yeah...Here is our first ultrasound picture of Spud -- a nickname James gave the babe. Healthy with a heart rate of 114.

Grow, Baby, Grow!
