Once we hit the Indiana border, I sent her an email to see if she'd be available for lunch. I knew this was super late notice and that she would most likely not be available, but it was worth a shot! Well, not long after I sent the email, I heard back from her. She was SUPER excited and was most definitely available. Great! As it turned out, her husband had the day off, so aside from running a few errands, they were pretty flexible. We made plans for Olive Garden -- a restaurant both close to her house and the interstate -- and figured I could just call when we hit the exit. Timing couldn't have been better.
While Obadiah had to cry his little eyes out in the car -- excuse me, truck...James would have a fit if I called it anything else, ha! -- we enjoyed a nice, relaxing lunch with two new friends: Erin and David. Not only are they *unfortunately* Baby Loss parents, but they're also both in the Army! Over lunch, we talked about many things...life in the military, the move, our angels (they lost their sweet Rosalynn earlier this year at 34.5 weeks), our pups, etc. There was much to talk about, and plenty of soup and salad to go around! I think we spent over 2 hours there at the table -- without a moment of silence. It was definitely a good lunch!
Once we finished up in the restaurant, we headed out to the truck. After all, there was still one family member that Erin had not yet gotten to meet -- our spoiled basset hound, Obadiah! She said that she was always amused by the stories about him on the blog, so it was a must! I think it's safe to say, Obadiah has some new friends. Oba took to David right away and welcomed as many belly rubs as he was willing to give. To say the least, it was a nice afternoon for all!
Here are a couple of pictures from our stop in Columbus...
