Craigslist...Oh, how I love you!

So, Craigslist has been a fantastic outlet for me lately. While James was deployed, I promised him that I wouldn't sell anything on CL due to safety issues. I wasn't about to have some random stranger coming to the house without him home. However, now that he's here...it's a whole different ball game. Granted, I usually offer to deliver the item if they're close, but even then, I have James come with me. It's been great! We've been able to get rid of several pieces of furniture that we no longer need, as well as smaller items that would sell for more through CL than a garage sale. I love it. We do joke though that it feels somewhat like a drug deal as we meet these random people in, say, the Safeway parking lot. The buyer and I always trade our vehicle descriptions beforehand so that once we're there, we're not hunting around forever. Then once we find one another, we trade the goods for cash and go on our merry way. It's great though, and after today, I have no doubt that we'll be below our weight allowance in the upcoming move! Woohoo!

On a side note, due to Obadiah's antics yesterday, he got to ride along while I dropped off the sold items. I suppose he thought it was a treat (he gets SO excited if you say the magic words -- *car ride*), but it was for my benefit, too. I didn't have to worry about anymore jailbreaks and could keep an eye on him. I'm just glad that fall's on its way here, so Oba can sit out in the car and enjoy the cooler temps rather than plotting out his next escape while we leave him home alone!

  1. Although, I saw you were having a HEAT WAVE out there! 82 degrees out there...can't stand it! Hahaha. Funny thing at our pool (connected to golf course); some strange person leaves their jeep running the entire time they're golfing so that a small little yip dog can exist in comfort. Now that's puppy love. I'm not sure I groove with that...what a waste of fuel! Anyway, I'm going to end this stream of consciousness now...love you!

  2. That's funny. I don't think I'd go to that extreme. If it's too hot, Oba stays at home. I also find it funny that they reported in PA that we were having a "heat wave" of 82. I can see them talking about the high 90's and low 100's that we had recently, but 82 is normal. I guess that's what happens when there's not much to report in the news! :)

  3. That is great. We ended up giving our stuff to Goodwill before we moved. I wish we would have done something like what you are doing on a few of the items. Goodwill was kind of snobby about some of our stuff! Also glad that Obadiah enjoyed his car ride! (((Hugs)))

  4. Oh Craigslist is a treasure-trove for bargain hunters like me. Haven't sold anything on there but I did buy some really good furniture off it and met a few interesting people. Glad Oba gets to go on car rides. It's been consistently in the 100s here lately, I had to dunk Tobi in his kiddie pool in the backyard a couple of times a day. He simply refuses to get in it on his own. He waits for daddy or mommy to do it even if he's passing out because of the heat. *sigh*

  5. Drew's Mom (Sorry, I don't know your first name), I'm sorry to hear how Goodwill treated you! I guess you never know how they'll be. We'll probably donate what's left before the move. Luckily, our Goodwill doesn't even look at the items. They take it from the car, toss it to the side, hand us the empty donation sheet, and head to the next vehicle...

Jennifer, I totally agree. As a fellow bargain hunter, I love finding a good deal on CL -- or selling for a good price! That's hilarious about Tobi and his kiddie pool. Sounds like another stubborn basset! :)
