A Day of Flashbacks...

So today was a lazy day. It was a DONSA (day of non-scheduled activity), so James had the day off and we soaked up that down time. We let Oba have the ottoman (covered with a sheet, of course), and we vegged out in front of the TV for awhile. Of all things, Independence Day and Austin Powers came on. Whenever those two come on, I can't help but watch them. Why? They have memories attached that bring a strange comfort to me.

Those memories go back to when we were in the hospital with Jake (our first son). I was on bed rest, and had absolutely nothing to do but sit and wait -- constantly wondering if Jake was going to survive. Luckily, to kill some time, they wheeled in a TV, VCR, and a few tapes that they had on hand...Yeah, the Army hospital in Germany didn't have the typical luxuries that most have. Well, of the tapes provided, these two particular movies were there. I'm sure we watched them a couple of times during our stay. It was the only thing that could take my mind off of the current situation -- not to mention drown out the sound of crying newborns down the hall...

Even though the memories attached to those particular movies are somewhat traumatic, I hold on to them. That week in the hospital contains the last few memories we have of our son. So, just like any other time they pop up on the cable channels, we had those on as we bummed around the house for the afternoon...
